Welcome to the VEGA (Violence, Evidence, Guidance and Action) Project

The VEGA Project is the first project funded under the Canadian Government’s 10-year, $100 million investment to support victims of violence and their children.

Project Overview:

With experts from the Preventing Violence across the Lifespan (PreVAiL) Research Network, and guided by a National Guidance and Implementation Committee of stakeholders from key Canadian organizations, the VEGA Project will develop pan-Canadian public health guidance, protocols, curricula and tools for health and social service providers. The $4.4 million, 3-year project (2015-2018) will:

  1. produce a foundational evidence-based guidance package that integrates stakeholder consultation and provides the latest evidence on effective public health practices in responding to three interrelated areas of family violence
  2. produce curricula and training for adaptation and implementation by different provider groups and in various settings, supported by specific protocols and tools, and based on the following principles:
    1. Trauma- and violence-informed care
    2. Cultural safety and competence in a Canadian context (Indigenous and multi-cultural perspectives)
    3. Sex- and gender-based principles, such that the guidance reflects gender relations and the different contexts for women and girls, men and boys
    4. Health equity
  3. develop metrics and indicators so that guidance and curriculum uptake and use can be evaluated; and
  4. develop an integrated knowledge mobilization strategy to ensure responsive, needs-based product development and appropriate ongoing communication with stakeholders, and the public
